Growing Into My Chef Hat

My name is Adriana, and I love to bake desserts. My hope is to one day become a pastry chef, I plan to do so by attending a community college that has an excellent culinary program. Perhaps I will work in a bakery, restaurant, or maybe get into the catering business. Either way, I will get to share my desserts with others and continue to grow in the development in becoming a great pastry chef.
Growing up I never would have guessed that I would be capable of becoming a baker. It's not that I didn't have a desire to bake, on the conturary I was always willing to make a dessert. Sadley though, my attempts in the kitchen would somehow end in catastrophe. Whether it was undercooking, overcooking, starting a fire in the oven, or forgetting to add a few ingredients; it never failed that the garbage would end up having to be taken out afterward. Of course, this all happened when I was nine to twelve years old.
Besides the classic mistakes of raw and burnt desserts, other things happened too.... Did you know that it is never smart to stick a fork in a Kitchen Aid mixer, while it is mixing? Or what about the definitions of Confectioners Sugar, and Granulated Sugar,  did you know that there is a difference between the two? These are just a few of the mistakes that I made, and they generally ended with me being grounded from baking for a little while.
If you would like to know what my favorite things to use in the kitchen are, then just look to the right under "My Sugar & Spice Cupboard Contains:". I hope that you can grow into your chef hat too as you come along on the journey with me, of delicious desserts! :)

The Kitchen of Love
To me, there is one place where the love for your family always seems to grow, and that's in the kitchen. Perhaps a few paragraphs from my favorite kitchen book can explain this a little better:

"We don't know about you, but we both love the kitchen. It is the heart of the house, the pulse of the family. So much happens in the kitchen. Botulism and putting out fires is only part of it.
First, the refridgerator is there. Need we say more? Nothing brings a family together quite like a game of 'Guess What It Was'. Whether it's a cucumber that now looks like a Chia Pet, cheese that now weighs two pounds more than it did when you bought it, or the three-week-old pot roast that is now providing a sort of neon lighting for you to see the rest of the food, playing Guess What It Was is a fun and educational game that has been bringing families together since the invention of the refridgerator.
Then there's the stove. How many famalies have gathered around a skillet engulfed in flames, trying to put out the fire before the neighbors see the smoke and call the fire department again? Nothing bonds a family quite like standing around a roaring grease fire on a cold winters day.
...Few things can silence teenagers more quickly than food. And few things can bring a family together faster than a feast. And we haven't even mentioned all the food fights yet."

My Kitchen Pet Peeves:

1. The worst thing that, I think, anyone could do to a dessert is use cool whip! It is processed and made from the same chemicals they use to make plastic, it even has a funny taste to it. If your going to go to all the trouble to make a dessert, than is it really that much more work to make fresh whipped cream? I think not!

2.  Always get your ingredients out before baking. It irritates me when I walk into a kitchen situation were the person cooking is frantic because he/she did not get the ingredients out before hand, and they need something right now and it is no where to be found.

3.  My feelings on store bought crust is the same as the cool whip: if you have the energy to make a dessert, then you have the energy to do it right! And in my terms, a store bought crust is just plain wrong!
